Simin Daneshvar’s occasional writings to be published

A collection of writings, translations and articles by the late Simin Daneshvar will be published.

According to Gholamreza Emami, writer, translator and a close contact to Simin Daneshvar, the collection includes her views on various social and cultural issues, Iranian painting and formation of modern arts in Iran.

As he said, having conducted aesthetic courses in Tehran University for a period of time, she had several noticeable essays on Iranian painting and formation of modern arts in Iran.

Besides, there are some translations of essays by western writers on different issues like orientalogy and mysticism.

Beatrice, the Chocolate Soldier and the Key to a Successful Life are some of Daneshvar’s works which have been recently reprinted by Elm Publications.

Moreover, two other works of hers prefaced Gholamreza Emami have been rendered into Italian. Ariana Farokhi has translated the works into Italian.

Simin Dāneshvar (28 April 1921 – 8 March 2012) was an Iranian academic, novelist, fiction writer and translator, largely regarded as the first major Iranian woman novelist. Daneshvar had a number of firsts to her credit. In 1948, her collection of Persian short stories was the first by an Iranian woman to be published. The first novel by an Iranian woman was her Savushun ("Mourners of Siyâvash", also known as A Persian Requiem, 1969), which went on to become a bestseller. Daneshvars Playhouse, a collection of five stories and two autobiographical pieces, is the first volume of translated stories by an Iranian woman author.
